Yes... A Healthier, Happy Me! I am excited to share my story with all of you!Remember my post about me finding out I had scary high blood pressure here last December? Well I have changed my life since that visit to the doctor's office!
After that doctor's appt. I was talking with a good friend Michele Ashman Bell and telling her I need to start exercising and to start eating healthier. I told her how I DO NOT like exercise. She told me about a class she teaches at the gym called Zumba. I had never heard of it so I went online to research it and bought a book about it. Then I decided to try it out.
Zumba is a fitness program inspired by Latin dance. I have always loved dance, so I was excited to find out about Zumba! It's fun, exciting and to me exercise in disguise! I go to a few different teachers that all have different styles and I love the classes!
The next thing I did was a TON of research on eating healthier. I don't use the 4 letter word DIE-t! I wanted to make this a lifelong goal to be a healthier, happier me :)
I continue since Jan. to go 3-4 days a week to the gym. What has this done for me? Well, my blood pressure is now normal! I have more energy and have lost 24 pounds! I also feel better and less stressed! Anything that can help ME feel less stressed is HUGE LOL!
What have I done to change the way I eat?
Wow this one was very challenging for me! I used to eat a lot of junk food! With keeping my blood pressure in check I am really watching my salt and sugar intake. I also am trying to eat more fruits and vegetables and brown rice instead of white etc.
I just want you to know that if I can do it, you can do it! Don't wait until you have to hear a doctor tell you, like I did! Take care of yourself and you too can be healthier and happy :) You are totally worth it!
I have so much to share and can't wait to hear all of your feedback! Please let me know your thoughts.
Thank You so very much for all my family and friends love and support! You are all precious to me and uplift and motivate me :)

Shauna,
It takes a lot of will power to change eating and exercise habits! You're looking marvelous and I know how good it feels to be able to accomplish a goal of a healthy, more fit, lifestyle. I was there once and trying to get back into it!
Congratulations!
Nice post. Good for you. I have been in "survival mode" since I got pregnant with Luke. I am so focused on kids, etc. I just keep thinking, if I could just get 4 hours continuous sleep I would have the energy to do more than just survive!
That is awesome! I love zumba classes they are so much fun.
Shauna, thanks for sharing your story. It's amazing what can happen when you set your mind to something. I'm so glad you have been able to find an exercise you love. I hope we can do a class together sometime!
I think the key word to your post is "lifestyle." Diets are temporary. You need to make changes the last the rest of your life.
You go GIRL! I'm so proud of you!
You know I'm so proud of you! I love these lifestyle changes you have made...even if I'm not quite there.
I'm so proud of you for sticking to it. I know you've been working really hard and you've inspired a lot of people.
I like when you do Zumba at home for me. :) It's fun to watch you, but I can see it's a lot of work. I can't keep up with you when you've tried to teach me. You're awesome. I love you.
That is so awesome Shauna!!! Keep up the good work :)
You look fantastic! WAY TO GO!

I too am so happy for You!I AM ALSO PROUD OF YOU!!!
I have all these health problems but yet have a seriously bad back. I had a three level fusion with rods and screws that have not fused yet from grafts from my hips, 3 years ago this month.
Would Zumba work for a lady with a bad back and knees? I love too dance and enjoy happy people! I have been visiting our son in the east for several weeks and am back in my walking routine and LOVE iT! I hope the weather is great back at home to continue. I know I would LOVE Zumba is my body could handle it.
24 pounds is great!!!!Congratulations!
Enjoyed your post...glad your blood pressure has gone down.
Wow, Shauna, this is just too weird, but a nice weird. Let me explain...but first congratulations on getting healthier.
For months, I have been in a huge battle with myself. Trying to syke myself up to get healthier, drop this weight, so I can be a witness for God (Kinda hard to do when you are sick all the time). Anyways, I am a diabetic, have hypothyroid and now my doctors are saying maybe CHF. I know what I need to do, I just have a hard time at willpower to get up and do stuff about it. Okay, so here is the crazy thing. Zumba just came to our town. We have a super small town with no red lights so I am kinda shocked to have access to such a new program. Then you were talking about salt and sugar. Being a diabetic, I have to limit my sugars, but recently found out now I am going to have to restrict salt too.
I have been praying so hard for the Lord to help me get over this hurdle and remove this thorn. I believe the Holy Spirit is whispering softly, it is time, you can do it and I will send other to you to be of encouragement to you.
I can't wait to get my health issue under control so I can bring glory to our Father, and be an encourager for others.
Thanks Shuana for posting this and inviting me to read it. You are a wonderful sister in Christ, and I love ya! Hugs.
Oh, I am definitely going to check the Zumba class out and maybe my daughter will want to do it with me, even though she is a slim healthy girl.
WOW! Go you!
I am so glad that you are doing well! Although I do not have high blood pressure or anything, I am very overweight and I've been working on finding the best way to lose weight and get healthy. I too do not like to exercise and I have thought about looking into Zumba. Thanks for sharing with us. Every success story is an inspiration to us all!
Shauna, you are amazing...absolutely inspiring!!
You've got me thinking: I totally need to follow in your footsteps. Thank you for sharing your story. You're awesome!!!!
Such a great story, I have wanted to try Zumba classes they look like a blast. Great job of sticking to your goals. I am great at creating goal, but not sticking to them. Good luck in your future endeavore.
Congratulations.
I am going to start taking a Zumba class this week. This post makes me feel excited about giving it a try.
Oooooooo, I've heard about Zumba classes! I wish they had them here! Way to go though, so inspiring to see people get healthy. :)
wow...you really took charge girl! Congratulations on finding a healthier, happier way!
I am struggling with health issues and ping pong weight loss, then gain...LOW blood sugar problems and guess you just learn to love your body and do the BEST you can do for it, eating, sleeping, destressing, etc. It should be a way of life but it is SO hard to change a lifestyle you might have had for years...or even DECADES! GOOD for you, Shauna!
Thank you for this uplifting, helpful post, I Loved reading about the new you and How good you feel I think it is awesome. You are an inspiration Shauna.
You look amazing Shauna - your post was inspiring and I know that I need to just go out and get moving. I did Zumba 2 winters ago, 3 sessions - it was a LOT of fun!
This is such a great story and thanks for some inspiration!
You are so pretty!
I'm excited about Zumba!
So, I love white rice and I don't know if I can switch to brown just like that...
Is white rice that bad for your health? I am from Brazil and have been eating white rice for as long as I can remember every day twice a day. Oh what to do? haha
I want to be healthy forever to take care of my family....
Wow - so awesome, good for you! What dedication, I need a little of that :)

Shauna, you stopped by to say hi on my page, so I was curious about who YOU are too. I recently found out that, despite my relatively healthy diet and being in good health otherwise, my cholesterol was obscene! It's been just a month since that day. I switched my family all the way over to a 98% plant-based diet, started baking our bread everyday so that I know exactly what's in it and all the fat is healthy flaxseed...my cholesterol has come down 30 points! Anyway, sooo happy for your success!
